VIC: Union condemns release of CFA s Linton tragedy review

The firefighters' union has condemned the Country Fire Authority for releasing an internal
review of last year's Linton bushfire in which five volunteer firefighters died.

United Firefighters Union branch secretary PETER MARSHALL says the release appeared as if
the CFA was attempting to influence public opinion before the outcome of the inquest into the
December 2 fire.

Mr MARSHALL says it also created concerns the CFA was trying to convince the public that
issues raised by the fire had already been addressed satisfactorily.

He says the proper place to examine the issues is at the coronial inquest, where all claims
and assertions may be properly tested and examined by an independent authority.

The review highlighted deficiencies in the training, equipment and culture of the CFA.
