Fed: Labor says AFP must reassure local community

Labor says the federal government must make public the results of an investigation
into last night's riot at the Woomera detention centre.

Opposition immigration spokeswoman JULIA GILLARD says those responsible for criminal
behaviour at the centre should be charged.

And Ms GILLARD's pledged to tour Australia's detention centres to see the problems first-hand.

She says the findings of an Australian Federal Police inquiry into the incident must
be released in order to assure local community members that all appropriate security measures
are in place.

Fifteen buildings were set alight and four were destroyed during the riot at the centre
in the South Australian outback.

Acting Immigration Minister DARYL WILLIAMS says the incident began as a peaceful demonstration
involving women and children.
